I just wish we could figure out what causes people to flip. My prayers are with the families. It's sad that these things are happening on military bases, maybe we are not taking care of our returning soldiers from the middle east. We have had men there for the last 24 years. If there was no oil there we would not be there.jmho.........

The alleged shooter, Spc. Ivan Antonio Lopez, served in uniform almost 15 years. Here’s what his Army records say:
■ He was 34.
■ His home of record is Guayanilla, Puerto Rico.
■ He joined the Puerto Rico National Guard in January 1999, and served in the Guard until March 2010. A Guard spokesman said Lopez was actually discharged in 1999 when he failed to complete training and rejoined in 2003.
■ He had multiple military occupational specialties while in the Guard. He was a band member and played percussion in the 248th Army Band. He also was an infantryman.
■ He was cross-leveled to 1st Battalion, 295th Infantry Regiment, a Puerto Rico Guard unit, and deployed to the Sinai. He served there from January 2007 to January 2008. When he returned, he went back to the 248th Army Band.
■ He was promoted to private first class in April 2003 and then to specialist in November 2004.
■ He left the Guard in March 2010, and went on active duty in April 2010. He entered active-duty as an E-3, but was promoted to E-4 again in October 2010.
■ His first duty station on active duty was Fort Bliss, Texas, where he was assigned to 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
■ He deployed to Iraq with 4th BCT in August 2011. He returned to Fort Bliss in December 2011.
■ He reclassed to become an 88M, motor transport operator, and was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, in February 2014. He was assigned to the 154th Transportation Company, which is part of the 13th Sustainment Command.
■ His awards include the Army Commendation Medal (two awards), the Army Achievement Medal (four awards), the Army Good Conduct Medal (three awards), the National Defense Service Medal (two awards), the Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, and the Multinational Force and Observers Medal (two awards).
