I am looking to get my first Home Defense shotgun. I am looking for something with a tactical look. Looking for something in a 12 or 20 gauge. What are some suggestion?

Pump or semi auto?

Mossberg makes some nice examples in both.

There is another company (Turkish) that makes the Escort in both varieties at a reasonable price.

I have the Escort Semi Auto. Very nicely made gun.

Currently I am using a Remington Shotgun as my home defense weapon. I believe it is an 870 Tactical Shotgun 12 gauge.

i dont have a tactical. i have the 870 express. that thing will deter anyone. for some reason the remington shotguns have the most distinct and loud action than any other shotgun. if you are a thief and you hear that 870 slide, you are instantly in flight mode running for the exit. the sound it makes is like no other. i was in my garage cleaning my shotgun and after i oiled it, i racked it a couple times to let the oil soak in. my neighbor who is not a gun person (but knows i have them, and is cool about it) comes over and asks "is that a shotgun i hear?" even non gun owners know the sound of a shotgun.

but any shotgun and home defense rounds will definitely give you a sense of security. the short barrels are definitely better for this purpose, but at my local gun range a shotgun barrel has to be 24" minimum for use out there. so i bought the express. i dont like guns i cant shoot. and dont like to have spare parts to swap out.

I think that the 870, regardless of type, is a sound and reliable weapon. It is not a semi auto, but I have to agree that when that thing racks back, there is no mistaking that you have a shotgun and its time to go. Mine currently has one round of bird shot, and the rest are slugs. If the first one doesn't deter the criminal, the next one will quite nicely remove their heart for them.

Almost forgot about the Keltec KSG. You want tactical? You got it. You want high capacity? You got it. You want short for clearing hallways? You got it.
It's a pump shotgun so it makes that distinctive sounds as you load the chamber.

Made in Florida and has great service. Don't rely on sound stopping threat , unless it is a loud boom!!!!!
