(Sophisticated) German News just a minute ago:

"Heavy rainfall has hit a large part of the US-American Northeast.
For example, in the State of Washington, several rivers swell up and caused floodings."

I might be wrong, but wasn't the State of Washington on the west coast?
Because I know Seattle is in Washington State, and Seattle is on the Pacific Coast.

So, did german news get the state wrong, or the coast?

You haven't heard? We flipped the United States. Washington state is now up where Maine use to be. Florida is over where California was but Texas is still the same. It was time for a change.

Lol, they got something wrong. You are correct that Washington state is indeed in the northwest. It borders Canada to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

Come on , their foreigners 1000 miles miles away.

Confusing the District w/ the state is hardly a huge fauxpas all things considered :)

I'm just as far away, not a professional journalist or anything, and I can tell Washington State and Washington, District of Columbia apart from each other.
Mainly because the latter is the friggin capitol of the US.

Also Washington State is the only state named after a U.S. President..the people in Washington D.C. wished they had a president instead of a king.
