Modern Muzzleloader

Was wondering if anyone is shooting a modern muzzleloader. I know it can be a cuss word around some.

I have a Thompson Center Triumph Bone Collector. Great shooting gun. You would have to pry this one from dead hands.

Seems most buy a .50 but shoot .44 - .45 in a sabot. I love Blackhorn 209 powder in mine but 777 loose and/or pellets are the most popular.

I shoot a .45 solid copper Barnes bullet in a sabot in my .50 and it shoots one hole groups all day at 100 yards. The bullet though expensive has performed fantastic on deer.

It depends on whether you are shooting percussion cap or flintlock. Percussion cap are usually 50 cal. Flintlock calibers are larger, usually around 70 cal. My dad has a .70 Kentucky Long that is a Glenn Jones custom, built to be shot left handed.

I use .50 and it is my favorite because supplies for the .50 are as easy to find as .30-06 ammo. You can always sell it or trade it later if you don't like it. My Thompson Center is a .50cal. You have other options such as.54 or .58.
