10/22 build

I ordered a 10/22 today and should have it in the next week or so. I'd like to build a decent plinker/target rifle. From the limited research I've done I like the laminated sporter style stock and .920 bull barrel. The rifle I ordered has the stainless receiver and barrel and a synthetic stock so I'd like to stay with a stainless barrel.

This will be my first 10/22 build so any guidance or advice would be much appreciated. I'm not looking to go all out and break the bank so go easy lol. It will be used primarily for plinking and maybe the occasional limb rat (squirrel). It needs to shoot decent groups at 50-100 yards. Links would help greatly for any suggestions you might have. So lets hear it guys. Thanks in advance

Exciting! I can't wait to see what you end up with. Having been wanting to build a new 10/22 for awhile now.

Damn! I had no idea 10/22 were that expensive to mod. Looks like it is way too easy to have a $1k++ 10/22.

Tracking info said it should be in Monday but my local FFL is closed that day. Tuesday I'll be at the hospital for the birth of my boys so it'll have to wait to get picked up lol. I've been talking about a plinker for a while and all my AR parts are finally in so the time was right. I'm already planning my second 10/22 build that'll be way cooler...

I didn't either and there is cheaper alternatives to the second link I posted but during my research that kept coming up so it has to be worth it (I hope). I'm hoping to keep this build under $1k with glass. If it goes over I'm destroying my bank card lmao. I still have to finish my saiga sometime during this build so it will take a while before I'm finished with it

looks like youre off to a good start. when i built mine i started with stock, then barrel, trigger, and other(bipod, polish internals). i should have started with trigger/polish, then barrel/stock. trigger makes biggest difference in my opinion, but all the upgrades help in their own way. now i need to get a decent scope, my 9x isnt enough anymore for what we shoot.

Thanks. I need to do some homework on scopes. I've always been a iron sights guy but this rifle will get optics

ive always had good luck with leupold. i also have a nikon prostaff 4-12x40 on a 17hmr savage and its really nice, the 12x gives just a little more advantage when punching paper. i just put a vortex diamondback 3-9x40 on a henry lever action 22 and its also really nice, its clear and really close in quality to my $500 leupold vxll 3-9x40. i want to put a 24 or 35x leupold on my bench 10/22 because we started shooting a little more competetively amongst ourselves @ 100yds(popping eggs, shooting thumb tacks) and the 9x isnt doing it for me anymore. all depends on your price range. for $200 you can get a really decent vortex, for $500 you can get a great leupold vx..., and for $1200 you can get a nightforce or leupold mark4 that will do anything you want it to. ive looked through the zeiss and swarovski but havnt ever used them so i cant tell ya much except they are super clear and around 6-700 for a middle of the road model.

Thanks for the advice. Leupold was one of the manufacturers I was looking at. I'll probably try to keep the glass in the $250ish range. No need in going all out if the shooter isn't good enough lol. I'll do a medium build on this one and try to practice, practice and then practice some more. If I feel like I'm doing good enough I'll upgrade or build another.

Here's where I'm at now

Got a chance to stop and pick it up the other day while returning home to take care of a few things. Hopefully we get to leave the hospital today and take the boys home. If so I'll pull the bolt and send it off to get reworked. Then order a trigger probably some time in early February. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot it before then lol

Midway USA had some deals so I was able to pick up a hogue overmold stock for $55. Went ahead and picked up a few 10 round magazines and a alangator clip while I was ordering. I probably disassemble the gun in the next few days and send the bolt and trigger off to have them reworked.

I sent the bolt and trigger out yesterday to get reworked. Just need to order a barrel and do some research on optics and should be good to go

Always Good to build. I can't even find a 10/22 buy ruger any where around me. There are some 22s around but not many. I may put that build up off 4 another glock. If they due put a pistol limit I will in compliance with a ten round mag G30sf. A ten round double stack

I actually found mine on gunbroker for a decent price. I'm sure they're a bit more now though. I think my next purchase will be either a sig p238 or a p938. Maybe both lol

Any one have any experience with green mountain barrels? I ordered one today so hopefully it's decent. The reviews seemed good

I do not own one but have shot them. Shot one at the range the other week. The guy had it on a 10/22 and was shooting quarter groups at 50 yards with no problems.

I have also shot their muzzleloader barrels on a Knight rifle and it shot 3/4" at 100 yards on my Dad's gun.

I have issues. One 10/22 and three stocks. This is the one I originally wanted and found so I ordered it
